STI Prevalence Atlas
A database of data on the prevalence of STIs in low- and middle- income countries.
STI Prevalence Atlas overview
The Atlas is a first of its kind global resource that brings together prevalence data on sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) collected in 2010 or later. The Atlas addresses long-standing gaps in comparable country-level evidence by assembling published and unpublished prevalence data from diverse sources, and by applying consistent quality standards.
The Atlas includes prevalence data from studies that report on clearly defined population groups with sufficient methodological detail, and where the majority of samples were collected in 2010 or later with a sample size of at least 100. The Atlas includes data from household-based surveys, surveys conducted in specific populations (e.g. pregnant women, adolescents, key populations, sex workers, or STI clinics attendees), baseline data from intervention studies, and case control studies. More details on the study inclusion and exclusion criteria can be found at: More information
At present the Atlas is focused on five STIs: chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis), gonorrhoea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae), HSV-2 (Herpes simplex virus type 2), syphilis (Treponema pallidum) and trichomoniasis (Trichomonas vaginalis).
The Atlas is an evolving tool and will be updated to reflect the latest evidence as new studies are published and reviewed, and further infections added.
Contribute to the Atlas
Please let us know of any published studies you are aware of that should be included, or any errors in any of the data already included in the Atlas.
The database is being expanded to include unpublished studies and national reports. If you have eligible data that meet the study entry criteria, which you are able to share for inclusion in the Atlas, please contact us.
We welcome constructive comments on how to improve the Atlas, as well as any feedback on how you have used the Atlas.
